Meet Seneca ShaHara Simmons, wife of NBA star Elton Brand. Seneca ShaHara Simmons began her academic study of the arts at Duke University,majoring in both Art History and Studio Arts. Her desire for an expanded view of the world led her to spend several years studying art and design across the globe, studying in Italy, France, Belgium, and Japan. Deciding to further her academic study in design, she attended Pratt Institute in New York and received her Master’s Degree in Interior Design. While at Pratt, she earned an internship with Clodagh, one of the world’s most recognized and honored female interior and product designers. Under the influence of Clodagh, the idea to develop a classic, yet highly versatile product for the art and design community began to percolate in her mind, and now, several years later, Manafest Leather is being offered to the world. The couple met at the prestigious Duke University, when Seneca was a sophomore and Elton came to visit the campus on a recruiting trip. They were introduced by mutual acquaintances,and soon after the two became instant friends while attending college. After dating for several years, Elton took Seneca away in a private plane to the One & Only Palmilla, in Los Cabos, Mexico. Seneca knew a proposal might be imminent, but even she was surprised during a beach picnic the next day when a plane flew overhead with the words “WILL YOU MARRY ME, SENECA?” behind on the plane’s tail. In the summer 2006, Elton married his longtime girlfriend and college sweetheart, Shahara , in North Carolina. The couple has one child, son Elton Peace Brand, born on October 16th, 2008.
