“Last year, former Leland Mayor Barbara Brooks and her daughter, Mala Brooks, wrote several checks totaling nearly $12,000 without approval from the Board of Aldermen, current Leland Mayor James Lowe said. The two went to the Mississippi Coast and stayed at the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort for a conference, but the Board of Aldermen hadn’t given approval to the trip, Lowe said.
Two weeks ago, the city asked the two to pay the nearly $12,000 back. Mala Brooks said the checks involved payments for legitimate expenses.
On Tuesday, when the issue was brought up at the Board of Aldermen meeting, Mala Brooks spoke out of turn, Lowe said. The mayor asked her to stop talking several times, but When she wouldn’t, he told her that she would removed from the meeting. She said, “That’s fine,” according to Lowe.
Three officers tried to remove her. At one point, she climbed under the table, crying and screaming, “Y’all are doing me wrong. I haven’t done nothing wrong. I’m not going anywhere.”
The officers had to pull her out from under the table and carried her out of the meeting. The incident was recorded by the city”.
CNN reports:
“Jerry Lepkow shot this video of bystanders rushing to rescue a mother and her two kids trapped in a burning car”
Since this video, Brian Kilmeade, co-host of Fox & Friends, apologized for remarks he made about American ethnicity during a recent telecast on the Fox News Channel. Discussing a Swedish study on the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and marriage, Kilmeade said it was problematic to compare Swedish and American populations, because, “we “Americans” keep marrying other species and other ethnics. Swedes have pure genes. In America we marry everybody”
Monday on Fox & Friends, Kilmeade said he did not intend to offend anyone with his earlier remarks: “Looking back on those comments, I realize they were inappropriate. I sincerely apologize. America is a huge melting pot and that is what makes us such a great country.”
