Meet Monique James, wife of former NBA star Gary Payton. Monique has known Gary since childhood. Monique and Gary were both born and raised in Oakland, California. They met in high school. The couple married on July 26, 1997. Currently, they live in Oakland, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. They have three kids: Gary Jr., Julian, and Raquel, a sophomore at St John’s University.
Gary Payton retired from the NBA in 2007. Payton played 17 years in the NBA. He is best known for his 12-year tenure with the Seattle SuperSonics. He has also played with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. Currently, Payton is working part-time as an NBA studio analyst for NBA TV and an occasional substitute analyst on The NBA on TNT. Also, Gary does the Tuesday night NBA TV broadcast of NBA Gametime Live, which is titled “Fan Night.
